The Essential Upgrades for Your 4×4

There is such a huge market for four-wheel drive accessories, that you could easily spend more on gadgets than you did on your truck. But many of these accessories are not worth it, and you only have so much space in your truck for gear. You should only be adding things that are proven performers and are likely to be used; having the right gear at the right time is such a great feeling. And it is also nice to be able to help out a mate because your ride is well equipped.

Here are some of the add-ons that are truly essential.

  • Bullbars: Paint isn’t cheap, and neither is body work. But if you need to drive in fear of scratching your ute, then why did you even get a 4×4? You can get a good set of 4wd bullbars in Brisbane, that way you can drive through the brush with confidence. It is a small investment that will continue to protect your truck for years, and they look great too. No 4×4 is complete without a good set of bars.
  • Skid Plates: Your body work is expensive, put your engine is even more critical. One of the first bits of protection you should install is a skid plate to guard your oil sump. This is a very simple and inexpensive add-on that could save your whole ute. All it takes is one sharp rock and your day is over.
  • Rescue and Recovery Gear: If you’re going to be having fun with your 4×4, chances are you are going to get stuck from time to time. If you got the right stuff aboard you got no worries. You need a decent 48 inch jack with a good base plate, a decent shovel, snatch block, shackles, straps or ropes, a rechargeable air compressor, gloves, and a flashlight.
  • Winch: Winches can be a little pricey, and they take up real estate on your truck, but when you need one, you are so happy to have it. A winch is one of the most likely items to be used while off roading, but you will see people that have a snorkel on their truck but no winch. Perhaps they think they are more likely to be underwater than they are to get stuck. If you are going to need that snorkel you also need a winch.

You can buy whatever you want for your truck, but you should consider the items from this list first before considering some of the less practical gadgets. Going off-roading is only successful when you can get back home without calling for help.
